The mission of the Occupational Safety and Health Program is to prepare men and women in the fields of health and safety.
It is the aim of our graduates to improve the health and safety of the work by maintaining standards, providing training and education and encouraging improvements in workplace safety and health. The program offers opportunities to relate concepts and principles to workplace practice.
The program is positioned within the Department of Construction Management and Occupational Safety and Health, which is one of four departments within the School of Technology. The degree is one of a few where a student can take all of the required coursework via distance delivery using the Internet Blackboard System.
Objectives of the Occupational Health and Safety Program:
To provide a quality environment which nurtures individual development and creativity through scholarly pursuit of academics in the field of Occupational Safety and Health.
To develop scientific and technical competencies through laboratory exercises and instructional activities.
To develop adequate oral and written communication skills, and to put those skills into practice in laboratory and classroom activities.
To assist students in the development of technical management capabilities in workplace safety, industrial hygiene and OSH related rules and regulations.
To assist students in preparation for careers in education, industry, business and government upon graduation in the field of Occupational Safety and Health.
Must have a GPA of 2.50 or better to transfer to this program.
